I didn't know him but I knew his brother. I just want to let him know that he's not forgotten.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Operation IRVING was intended to reduce the VC infrastructure in the Phu My region of Binh Dinh Province, up the coast north of Qui Nhon. The operation began with elements of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division conducting an air assault into a beach-front hamlet named Hoa Hoi about 13 kilometers east-northeast of Phu My.

The cavalrymen found the VC and a short but vicious fight ensued. Six US soldiers were killed while clearing the area of VC:

  • 1st Bn, 12th Cavalry
    • PFC Pepito Caguimbal, Castroville, CA, A Company
    • PFC Francis P. Royal, Clinton, MO, B Company
    • PFC Roy Salazar, Rolling Meadows, IL, B Company

  • 1st Sqdn, 9th Cavalry
    • SGT Ronald H. Mis, Reed City, MI, A Troop (Silver Star)
    • PFC Bobby R. Bryant, Wichita, KS, A Troop
    • PFC Douglas R. Lueck, Glencoe, MN, A Troop
