He did not lose his place in the minds of men because he was out of their sight.

- John Henry Newman, Sermons -

They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it.

Death cannot kill what never dies.

Nor can spirits ever be divided, that love and live in the same divine principle, the root and record of their friendship.

If absence be not death, neither is theirs.

Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still.

For they must needs be present, that love and live in that whch is omnipresent.

In this divine glass they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure.

This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 15 March 1971 a UH-1H Huey (tail number 68-15441) of the 117th Assault Helicopter Company was tasked with an administrative flight to HOTEL-3, a helicopter field near Tan Son Nhut Airbase. After off-loading their passengers and getting a good hover check, the aircraft was cleared for take-off. Take-off and initial climb-out appeared normal, but as the Huey entered a left bank to heading 270 it appeared to slow. It then entered a descent, impacting on a berm bordering a ditch. The aircraft broke up and burned. Four men were killed in the accident:
  • CWO Raymond J. George, San Bernardino, CA;
  • WO Jerry W. Kirkendoll, Overland Park, KS;
  • SP4 Gregory S. Morgan, Atlanta, GA; and
  • SP4 Jerry W. Peoples, Saline, LA.

They are remembered by their comrades in the
117th AHC
