A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 13 July 1969 B Company, 2/1 Infantry engaged an enemy force on the south bank of the Cua Dai River about 6 kilometers east-southeast of Hoi An. The infantrymen were supported by helicopters from F Troop, 8th Cavalry. By the time the enemy broke contact two infantrymen from Bravo 2/1 and three aircrewmen had been killed:
  • B Co, 2nd Bn, 1st Infantry:
    • 1LT David E. Yates, Chesapeake, VA
    • SP4 Joseph Morriggi, Garfield, NJ

  • OH-6A tail number 68-17165, F Trp, 8th Cavalry:
SP4 Morriggi was buried in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi, New Jersey, on July 20, 1969.
