04 Jun 2005 I was in the same squad with LCpl Mullins in G Co., 2/7 - Viet Nam 1967. I wish to call attention to a correction that needs to be made to that section of LCpl Mullins' memorial site under the heading of information from "The Virtual Wall". There were six Marines killed from Golf Company, 2nd BN,7th Marines on April 21st, 1967... not five. Your list omits Pfc Joseph Dunn Wylie, II, from Belleville, Illinois. Like LCpl Mullins, Joe was a fine example of all that was good about young American men in the 60's, and a brave Marine. There were 11 Marines on that patrol near an area known as "Elephant Valley" up river from Hill 190 in Quang Nam Province on that fateful day ... I know, I was one of them. I was badly wounded during the ambush we walked into. Of the five Marines who survived, only Cpl Davis got out without being wounded. Of the 11 Marines on patrol that day, only three of us are still living today. I choose not to go into the details of exactly what happened that day in this space. I will discuss it only with his family if ever I should have that opportunity. It is enough to say that LCpl Mullins stayed right with us and fought with all that was in him. Deocampo, San Francisco, CA Pfc Richard L. King, Lancaster, OH Pfc Charles M. Smith, Jacksonville, FL Pfc Joseph D. Wylie, Belleville, IL As implied by Mr. Williams above, Pfc Joseph Wylie's name was omitted from an earlier version of this memorial. At that time, it was believed that Pfc Wylie was one of the Marines and sailors who died in heavy fighting at Binh Son on 21 Apr 1967. The Virtual Wall appreciates Mr. Williams' corrective advice regarding Pfc Wylie's actual duty assignment.
