I was a fraternity brother of Steve's at Southern Methodist University in the late 1960's. I recall him as a warm, bright, energetic individual who got along with everyone. I was very saddened by his death - he was a true patriot.

God Bless Him.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 10 September 1972, LT Stephen Musselman launched in an A-7C CORSAIR II (BuNo 156798) from USS AMERICA on an "Iron Hand" mission in support of a B-52 raid in the Hanoi area. As the SAM suppressors approached Hanoi from the south a number of SA-2 missiles were fired at them. Although the flight took evasive action, Musselman's aircraft was hit and he ejected about five miles south of the city. Given the air defenses in the area search and rescue efforts were not possible.

When the US POWs were released in February 1973, none of them had any information regarding LT Musselman.

On 1 March 1978, the Secretary of the Navy approved a Presumptive Finding of Death in Musselman's case.

On 7 July 1981, the Vietnamese government returned remains which, on 20 July 1981, were confirmed to be those of Stephen Musselman.
