David was a fine Marine. Through his cheerful disposition and hard work, he won the respect of many. His untimely death while on patrol as a Fire Team Leader in the Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam, was a source of great sorrow to all of the friends and family who knew him.

David will always be remembered and loved by those who knew him. May God let him rest in peace.

David was a great brother to me and I miss him every day. I always wonder how many children he would have and what career he would have chosen. His death devasted me and it has been a great loss in my life. I will never forget the things he taught me and the times we shared the many summers we spent together and at granny's house. I do know that he loved the Marines and he died fighting for the country he loved. Rest in peace, my dear brother, I love you and miss you dearly.

Your only sister

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Hill 950, one of the peaks surrounding the combat base at Khe Sanh, was the site of a radio relay station as well as being a patrol base; it was garrisoned by the Marines from early on until the withdrawal from Khe Sanh. On 02 August 1968 the hill was manned by Echo 2/4 Marines, whose 3rd Platoon lost six men in an engagement with NVA regulars:
  • Sgt Ronald N. Bloom, Clearfield, PA
  • LCpl Richard D. Goen, Augusta, GA
  • LCpl David E. Morton, Cedarville, OH
  • Pfc Ronald H. Dye, Clarksburg, WV
  • Pfc Craig F. Swain, Medford, MA
  • Pfc Paul W. Trainor, Malden, MA
