The database page for Michael Lester Ness
Michael was the fifth boy in our family... The youngest then with two sisters always on his tail. We were known as the Ness kids. It's funny now but he used to get mad when people called us that. He always said "When I am a Marine I won't have to hear that any more!" But to this day they call all seven of us "the Ness kids". Mike was always a Marine even before he really was. That's all he ever wanted to be. When he was in grade school and Junior High he would have those little army men all set up in different places in his room, the trucks, jeeps, and all the ammo, and no one could move them. He knew where everything was and if it was moved he would know and have a fit. He was a good big brother, he watched out for me. Being the next in line and younger I guess he felt it was his job. He was so proud to be a Marine. There is not a day goes by I don't think of him. He is missed by all who knew him and now being older with kids of my own I understand what our parents must have gone through ... when my youngest left for the Marines I was sad, worried, and so very, very PROUD. Thanks for keeping us safe. You will always be in our hearts and minds ...
Love and miss you,
Mom and Dad are with you now so I guess it's from I would love to hear from anybody who knew my brother.

A Note from The Virtual WallPrivate First Class Michael Lester Ness is buried in Plot 5, Row 13, Section 4 of the Riverside Cemetery in Painesville Township, Ohio. Riverside is a large cemetery and PFC Ness is not alone: at least eight other men who died as a result of their service in Vietnam are buried there - three within just a few feet:
