A Note from The Virtual Wall From 3rd Recon Battalion message 070039Z SEP 67, debrief report for 3rd Force Recon patrol 436-67: "051700H (YD316355) - Patrol observed six to seven people, one of which appeared to be a woman. Patrol at this time was at extraction Landing Zone where they ambushed the enemy resulting in four VC/NVA KIA (confirmed) and one VC/NVA KIA (probable). Patrol was still receiving fire from an unknown number of enemy. They were unable to retrieve the body and one AN/PRC-25 radio brevity code CR shackle code number two. Patrol at this time broke contact and moved approximately 300 meters where patrol heard from the southeast approximately 800 meters. At this time patrol heard one (small arms shot) toward the south. Patrol then called AO [aerial observer] and Sparrow Hawk [reinforcements]. AO on station was receiving fire. Patrol while they were moving to LZ for extraction received sporadic sniper fire. Patrol while being extracted observed the body but no other gear could be observed." A later ground insertion into the area failed to recover Pfc Prather's body. His remains have not been repatriated.
