Ronnie Calvin Presley was my brother-in-law, a young boy trying to get his life started. He had lived with my husband and I for several months in Chattanooga, Tennessee before we moved back to Bossier City, Louisiana. He was sixth of 13 children - seven sisters, five brothers. His father still lives in Lebanon, Tennessee as do most of his family.

Ronnie and his wife Donna and stepson Greg came to Louisiana in the summer of 1967. Donna was expecting; their baby girl was born in January 1968. We do not know if the Red Cross was able to contact him about the birth - Donna was told he was in transit.

He took a job at a gas station then things happened and he joined the Marines. After taking his family back to Lebanon he came back to Bossier and I took him to downtown Shreveport and dropped him off at the Marine office. That was the last time I ever saw him.

He was a kind, very handsome young man. His father and all his brothers (except my husband, medical problems) served in some branch of the military. I am proud I knew Ronnie and I appreciate the sacrifice he made for his country. In war there are no wins.
