Specialist Four Jay Wayne Parola was killed in action on 28 October l968, while on a reconnaisance-in-force patrol. He was walking point for his Platoon, on that fateful day, which was leading the Company. As I recall, he was the third son that his mother had lost in Vietnam and no-one, in his Platoon and Company A, knew about this until later, when the Company Commander received a letter from his mother. He had just recently received word that his extension request for another six months in Vietnam had been approved. His loss that day was very sad to say the least. I have lasting memories of that day and his heroic actions. Specialist Parola will never be forgotten.
