10 Nov 2002 George: It's 36 years since we graduated. And 33 years since you gave the ultimate sacrifice. A day does not go by that I don't think of you. I can still see that shi-- Grin! It's a lifetime later! You are still my Hero. As Veterans' Day approches I want to thank you. Although You'll never be someone's Husband or Father, You will always be My Friend and a part of My Family and My life. I will never forget. My wife and I went to see the moving wall last year. When I saw your name I broke down in tears as I took a rubbing. 11 Nov 2002 The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial. The 1966 Northeast Catholic High School graduate will be long remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor. 'He could even laugh when the joke was on him,' his parents said, and they received letters from Marine buddies who said his humor got them through many dark days in Viet Nam. Reed dreamed of becoming an FBI agent and worked for the bureau as a part-time clerk while attending American University in Washington DC. He joined the Marine Corps in January 1968 and intended to finish college and become an FBI agent. The 20-year-old lance corporal, a team leader in Company G of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, died in Quang Tri Province on June 16, 1969, with less than a month remaining on his Viet Nam tour.
