A Note from The Virtual Wall In late July 1969 the 2/1 Marines were conducting a search-and destroy mission around Hill 845 (Nui Mat Rang). The 2/1 Command Chronology records that the 3rd Platoon, Hotel 2/1 lost 7 men on 26 July - one at 0950, and 6 in an ambush at 1430. The seven men were HM3 Michael J. Caprio, Vestal, NY (Corpsman, H&S with Hotel 2/1); Cpl George H. Clifford, Grand Rapids, MI; Cpl Fred J. McClain, Jacksonville, FL; Pfc Larry G. Belden, Esbon, KS; Pfc Donald E. Fletcher, Mount Airy, NC; LCpl Michael C. Nielsen, Beloit, WI; and Pfc Reynaldo S. Rodriguez, Snyder, TX.
