Michael Ira Shaner is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 04E Line 131.
He was my brother, 8 years older than me. He was just 19 years old when he died and had only been in Viet Nam for 3 days.
He was a talented mechanic and had always wanted to be a Marine.
His death destroyed my mother ... she died just 13 years later of a broken heart. I remember the day we received the news as if it had just happened.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
He joined the Marines on March 17, 1965 and died less than a year later.
He is missed and loved.
