Stanley Stellmach was my father's only brother. He was killed the year I was born, so I've never met him. My father speaks of him often and I wish I could have met him.

Stan was my older brother, he was eighth in line of nine children. He was a very nice person, trying to live the American dream. He was only 19 years of age when he was killed in Nam. He is deeply missed and always thought of by his family.

From his sister.

I was born on April 14th, 1968 - the same day Stanley died. After high school I joined the Army and went through the Warrant Officer program, US Army Helicopter Flight School Class 87-08.

I am Catholic and don't believe in reincarnation, but since I was young I had some feeling or connection to the helicopter pilots in Vietnam. I read all the books and met a few pilots, and wondered what it must be like, the sound of the Huey always haunting me.

Flying in a Huey was amazing but I can't even imagine flying one in combat. I wonder what Stanley was like; he died as I was born, but I am sure he was a great pilot and I mourn his loss.

We are so lucky as a Nation to have men like him.

When I show my own kids the pictures of me in the Army, I think about April 14th 1968 and what it must have been like.
