Kent was born in Hobbs, New Mexico and grew up in Monahan, Texas. He attended school from the first grade until graduation at Monahans High School. He was a mid-term graduate in January 1967. He joined the Army right out of high school and volunteered for Vietnam. He did his basic at Fort Bliss, Texas and Engineer Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He departed for Vietnam in August 1967. He was killed two months after arriving in country. His mother indicated several years ago that he loved to help others and his favorite song, a song that inspired him, was "This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land" by Woody Guthrie. He was the oldest of seven children, three brothers and three sisters. He is remembered by his community and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Memorial located at Midland International Airport, Midland, Texas. May his sacrifice never be forgotten. |
