A Note from The Virtual WallTwo men from Bravo 1/9 Marines died on 08 Oct 1965,
On 16 Sep two LVTs (amphibious tractors) were enroute to pick up Marines from Bravo 1/9 for a sweep action. LVTP5 B-26, from Bravo 1st AMTRACS, struck a mine, killing one and wounding three crewmen. The three wounded were taken to the Bravo 1/9 position and medevaced from there. Bravo 1/9 then provided a detail from its 3rd Platoon to guard the damaged tractor pending recovery operations. A second mine was detonated, wounding four men - three from Bravo 1/9 and one from Bravo 1st AMTRACS. The four were medevaced from the site. The three Bravo 1/9 Marines were
1/9's October Chronology reports that a returning Bravo 1/9 patrol was taken under sniper fire at about 0700 02 October, with one Marine seriously wounded. The S-1 (Administration) log identifies Lance Corporal Ash as the Marines who was wounded and evacuated. |
