While I grieved for you then, thirty five years would pass before I would even come to know your name. Today, I do not grieve for you as I did then, nor as others who have no hope for the resurrection may still do. I believe that one day all this will come to pass, and that once more you will see the light of day. I was assigned to that bird (17551) but I was a short timer and Larry the gunner took my place. It was supposed to be an "ash and trash" mission so the switch was approved. I did not know him well as he was still a new guy but I remember him always talking about his wife and child at night when we were in the hootch and I've often wished over the years it could of been me as I was a single guy... I have always remembered Larry Dwayne Johnson of Utah.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 22 July 1970 a UH-1H Huey (tail number 67-17551) of B Company, 229th AHB, was climbing out following departure from Fire Support Base Granite when it suffered complete engine failure at about 700 feet. The pilot declared an emergency and entered an autorotation. He lacked sufficient altitude or airspeed to avoid a crash-landing in the Song Be River. The aircraft rolled right on water impact and quickly sank. Although three of the men aboard escaped the sinking aircraft, three others died in the crash:
