Thank you to all the men who contacted us in the last year to share memories of my brother. My family is so grateful to hear your stories. After 32 years, we are amazed that so many of you remember our beloved Glenn. Thank you for keeping his memory alive!

Silver Star

"The Silver Star citation stated that Sp/4 Valente, a medic, was stationed with the 35th Engineers Battalion, Company B, in the northern part of South Vietnam near the Cambodian border when an ambush occurred. Sp/4 Valente, spotting a wounded comrade felled during an ambush by hostile forces, rushed to the soldier's side and began administering medical assistance.

"During treatment of the soldier, the award stated, Sp/4 Valente suffered wounds from small arms fire but continued helping the other wounded man until he himself succumbed from the shooting."

From a newspaper article printed shortly after his death.
The "35th Engineers Battalion" refers to the 35th Engineer Group.

We served together way back then. I am alive today because of you.
You thought of everyone first before yourself.
Company B will never forget you.
Rest in peace, my brave Army brother.

Reading this makes me think about my life! I am 22 years old now, a paramedic, once got my draft notice too. Glenn helped others being attacked. I don't know if I could ever be so brave. Respect!

Mr. Fries gave an address in a European country.
Not everyone has abandoned the concept of military service.
Respect!

Doc, in a war with so much hate, you were always a good, kind, decent man and a brave soldier. That tells much of your parents as well. We never got to go to school together, but I visited you recently and cried once again after all these years.

Doc, you are missed as much today as the day I last saw you on the day you left us.

Your friendship and humor lives on in my heart and mind.
