Bud and I endured the rigors of basic training together at MCRD San Diego, in Platoon 2031, from May 1966 until August 1966. It was an Honor Platoon. After graduation, we continued training together at Camp Pendleton until we each went to different occupational specialty schools. During our training at Camp Pendleton, many off hours were spent together goofing around on base, as young men far from home will do, and we frequently took liberty together in Oceanside, San Clemente, Anaheim (Disneyland), and Tijuana. Bud was a gentle soul, kind, gentle and genuine. His most memorable attribute was a quick wit and an always-entertaining sense of humor. Rest in peace, my friend, and may "God Bless You".
From a Marine friend, |
I found this memorial to Walter Vieregge III (Bud) today and I could not believe it. I am Bud's little brother. I never knew him, I've only heard stories. I was adopted 2 years after his death. Unfortunately our parents past away several years ago. If anyone has any stories to share about him I would love to hear them. I can be contacted at tvieregge@gmail.com.
God Bless, |
I'm proud to have an uncle who fought for our country. God bless him and all the other people who served and died in the Vietnam war. If there are any stories about him, please let me know.
