FIRST VIETNAM VICTIM

      Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Wright who reside on Gibson Avenue received the tragic news Friday morning of the death of their son, Pfc. Raymond E. Wright, 20.

      Pfc. Wright reportedly died from wounds he received during combat operations when engaged [with] a hostile force in a fire fight on July 16th in Vietnam.

      Raymond entered the Army on September 24, 1967. He received his basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky. and 6 weeks of advanced infantry training at Fort McClellan, Ga. He left for Vietnam on April 1, 1968.

      He was a 1966 graduate of Portland High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

      Pfc. Wright's body arrived here Tuesday night and military services for him will be conducted today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Ky.

      Survivors include his parents; one brother, Roger Wright of Portland; two sisters, Mrs. Velma Troutman of Portland and Miss Joyce Wright of Nashville and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cook of Mitchellville.

      Pfc. Wright was Portland's first Vietnam victim.
