A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Anthony Discepolo (nicknamed "Butchie") was graduated from West High School, Cleveland. He was interested in Civics, and loved music. At age 15, Butchie was selected to sing at Severens Hall with the Cleveland Orchestra. He was sensitive and artistic. Butchie enlisted in the Marines at age 18. Although originally scheduled to go through jump school, he received orders to a unit in Vietnam before completing the course. In Vietnam, Butchie's unit escorted tanks in the fighting and assisted in evacuating the wounded during the Tet Offensive. He was killed in action on Friday, May 24, 1968, at age 19.
