They died in a helicopter crash near Saigon, February 18, 1966. Both were 22 years old.

On 18 Feb 1966, a UH-1B Huey (tail number 64-14188) of the 197th Assault Helicopter Company, 145th Combat Aviation Battalion, was on an administrative flight to Dalat when the aircraft struck a high-tension transmission line over a river in the vicinity of Bien Hoa. All seven persons aboard died in the crash:
  • LTC Charles M. Honour, Jr, pilot, Commanding Officer, 145th Avn Bn
  • CPT Albert Merriman Smith, copilot, HHC, 145th Avn Bn
  • SP4 Gary Ray Artman, crew chief, 197th Avn Co
  • SP4 Christopher Joseph Lantz, gunner, 197th Avn Co
  • CPT Thomas William Stasko, passenger, HHC, 145th Avn Bn
  • 2LT Carol Ann Elizabeth Drazba, passenger, 3rd Fld Hosp
  • 2LT Elizabeth Ann Jones, passenger, 3rd Fld Hosp
