A Note from The Virtual Wall

When this memorial was first published (June 2002), SP4 Roberts was incorrectly claimed by the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry (the "Manchus"). In April 2007 The Virtual Wall determined that SP Roberts was assigned to HQ Company, 1/5 Cavalry.

On 31 Jan 1968 a mixed force of NVA regulars and main-force VC troops were found massing for an attack on Quang Tri City. Elements of the 1st Cavalry Division had been moved north a few weeks earlier and were employed, together with ARVN units, in the defense of the city. During the first three days of the Tet Offensive, 15 Americans died in the fighting around Quang Tri City, 13 of them from the 1st Cav:
